The Genie brand has been the property of the Terex Corporation as of 2002.

Originally, it had been part of the Genie Industries founded by Bud Bushell in 1966, and specialised in forklift equipment (aerial platforms and handlers).

Since it was bought by Terex, the latter has been in charge of the brand's sales operations as «Terex Aerial Work Platforms» and has carried on with the commercialisation of its products.
